“You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma” is a body of work that follows the lives of a gunslinging cowboy character and his better half, the White Maiden. The cowboy’s a drifter; wandering aimlessly through barren landscapes, playing banjo and shooting his pistol. The White Maiden is a fiery, confident, almost supernatural being. She dances in fire and is a kind of spiritual guide to the gunslinger. The two video excerpts above are from “BangBang” and “Cowboy Ham and Eggs”, which both feature gunplay and garner inspiration from classic American western films, country music, and the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Show. The costumes and objects featured in the installation “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma” were used in the making of these videos.
